What started off as a slow road trip to a thanks giving function in Aliwal North, in the Eastern Cape, ended up as a dramatic excursion - more like how school trips turn out...believe you me, i thoroughly enjoyed those - as much as i enjoyed my one man road trip.
It was 4 o'clock when i threw my cooler bag into the back seat of my beloved s.line...She had been idling for almost an hour, whilst i was getting things into their rightful places, the Jameson in the cooler and the golf clubs in their bag.
At about 5.00 in the morning, approaching Kroonstad, the s.line's clutch plate gave in -i was not perturbed by that as i knew my mechanic would come and sort me out - indeed he did come, at 15hrs00 - almost ten hour later - he fitted a brand spanking new clutch plate and off i went - against better judgement from friends back in jozi who were urging me to come back - i must say, i do not regret the decision as i thoroughly enjoyed the humour.
I arrived at Aliwal North just after 7.30pm and was immediately served with a plate of samp and tons and tons of meat -beautifully cooked meat -(yebo, inyama e phekwe isixhosa-sotho -This i say because people down in Aliwal speak both xhosa and sotho and do their things xhosa and sothocally). The only other person who knows how to do this, is my wife - It was at this moment when i heard that xhosa's in Aliwal North are tribalistic -they call every other language isintu...so in Aliwal North, people speak xhosa and isintu..how hilarious....tltltltltltltltltlt.
It was nice to see my old friend uBra Vido so happy amongst his siblings...they have all gone through torrid times -Divorce, unemployment, stroke, death of their beloved mother and car accidents, you name it - So, this was to say thank you to the Lord for having kept them alive and well up until today...It was nice to see uBuyisile ehleka isiqhezu (laughing his lungs out)...Of all members of this family, he was the worst hit....oh..uMpemvu omhle, atsho ngentshebe yebokwe......tltltltltltltlt.
Anyway, after having had my dinner and being introduced to the rest of the amaMpemvu clan, it was time for me to go and rest...by the way, i must mention that by this time, i was catching the last of the thanks giving function but it seemed like i was there forever.....hohohohohohoho...bezibuya. I slept at some nice little b and b...eKwela, nice and clean...the only gripe is that i slept on a double bed...phela mina ngijwaele umbababa..iking size..anyway, i had a lekker slaap.
The next morning, sunday the 19th December 2010, i was up and after checking out, went back to Buyisile's home.....this is were i heard the most hilarious statements from Ubra Archie.....one of Buyisile's cousin Brother from Welkom....Now this is Bra Archie's version of the Zinedine Zidane incident during the previous world cup - No man not the 2010 world cup...the one before that....yah when Zinedine head butted that italian....Mussolini or whatever his name is...tltltltltltltltltltltltlt....Apparently, and this i must emphasize is Bra Archie's version...."lest people, and my friends who are Orlando Pirates fans think this was my saying"...the italian told Zinadine that "You play like you are in South Africa and playing for that team..Orlando Pirates"....This floored everybody
Anyway, i could not stay longer than eleven o clock in the morning because i had to drive back to Gauteng maboneng and they had to go and visit a friend in hospital....my drive back to Jozi was also quite and exciting. . . .drove past one of the most intriguing sights in Zeerust...Check out the pic. Lesoba ntate...Lesoba.
